Michael Seal - Funny Farm - Poplarville MS
Michael Seal is the owner of the Funny Farm in Poplarville MS. His expertise in propagation, division and mounting bromeliads has made him the go-to person in his field. A long time member of the MS Nursery and Landscape Association, he has been working with these plants since 1990. He will be bringing plants for sale.
Mike Seal of Funny Farm Bromeliads in Poplarville MS showed the Gardenettes how easy growing air plants can be. Addressing the group at their November 9 meeting at the Strawberry Board Building in Memorial Park, Seal offered many varieties of these epiphytes who share the same botanical classification as Spanish Moss and pineapples.
Attending the meeting included guest Betty Guidry and new members Karen Hotard and Linda Fabre. Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc. Hostesses for the meeting were Ellen Pusey, Carol McGough, and Margaret Hardin.
Sherry Klein gave an update on the Make a Difference event in October. Groceries were collected to share with the residents at Westminster apartments. Jamie LeBlanc put a collection box for Penny Pines which finances reforesting trees at Kisatchie National Forest.
Margaret Bailey announced that Garden of the Month would be given to Emmanuel and Pat Bourgeois at 280 Barringer Road; Genesis, to Paul’s Café. President Vicky Fannaly discussed some plans for the February Joint Tangipahoa Garden Clubs meeting hosted by the Gardenettes. Pusey brought an arrangement for judging. Horticulture was brought by Sunday Hanson, Pusey and Klein. Plants, seeds and cuttings were shared by Barbara Martino, Klein and Bailey.
Plans for the Christmas Party were finalized. Hostess Kathy Bruce will be having the event at her home. Covered dish and gift exchange will be handled by the members. Attending but not previously mentioned were Dottie Boudreaux, Cynthia Cummer, Mary Hirsch, and Rose Ann Husser.
