Gardenettes welcomed local author Pam Villagran whose books Bed of Roses and Belle Rose will be followed by a third book next year. Villagran said that the series was inspired by her family struggle to keep their ancestral home. She spoke at the club's October 10 meeting, held at the Strawberry Board building.
Club member Marilyn Wright gave a soap making demonstration and instructed the members on how to add herbs, fruit essences and other natural scents to the bars. She showed a variety of molds that could be used to enhance the appearance of the product.
Hostesses for the event were Ellen Pusey, Carol Borgstede, Jane O'Flynn and Susan Pizani. The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
President Sonya Avery opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance and the collect. Chaplain Joan Morse asked who had special intentions and offered prayers for them. Cynthia Cummer gave the minutes; Vicky Fannaly, the treasurer's report.
Horticulture and floral designs were provided by Dottie Boudreaux, Anna Poland and Avery. Poland received people's choice for her "Welcome Fall" theme. Several fund raising ventures including a raffle, were discussed to help fund the scholarship and other club projects.
