MONTHLY MEETING: April Gardenettes meeting will be at Vicky Fannaly’s home. Annie Coco, former county agent, will be giving a plant identification program. Hostesses include Sunday Hanson, Sherry Klein, Rose Ann Husser and Mary Hirsch
GARDEN OF THE MONTH - Jan Downy, 154 Lake Orleans, received the March Garden of the Month award from the Gardenettes. The presentation was made March 9 by chairman Marilyn Wright. Joining her in congratulating Downy were Vicky Fannaly, Sherry Klein, Mary Hirsch, Betty Jordan, Ellen Pusey, Kathy Bruce, Susan Pizani, Karen Moran, Pat Walsh, Sunday Hanson and Annette Cabral.

GENESIS AWARD – SMITH NURSERY: Gardenettes presented the March-April Genesis Award for commercial landscaping to Smith’s Nursery, 19355 Hwy. 22 East. Photo by Annette Cabral. Smith’s Nursery, 19355 Hwy. 22 East, received the Genesis Award for March, April. Given to commercial groups whose floral plantings are interesting and attractive, the award was presented by Gardenettes chairman Marilyn Wright.
MARCH MEETING: Dr. Allen Owings, senior horticulturist at Bracy’s Nursery, presented a program on the 2022 LSU Super Plants selections. Owings spoke to the Gardenettes at their March 9 meeting at Pappy’s Stowaway Restaurant. Hostesses for the meeting included Cricket Ayala, Karen Moran, Pat Walsh and Betty Jordan.
LGCF CONVENTION FUNDRAISER– April 26-27 – Thanks to Sunday Hanson for the beautiful red iris 11/3/4" x 21" done by late local artist Carmel Foret who is a former Gardenette. Carmel had two stores on W. Pine where she sold her art. Sunday had it framed professionally. Also we are giving three beautiful gently used books, one of which is valued at $185. Total donation for April convention is valued at $300. The books were part of a large collection given to the Gardenettes from an estate. Total donation for April convention is valued at $300. We will be using them for door prizes and fundraisers, especially the February joint meeting. Total donation is valued at $300.

COVINGTON GARDEN CLUB FLOWER SHOW – April 7: The Covington Garden Club invites you to “A Night at the Oscars”, our annual NGC Standard Flower Show. You will be treated to beautiful floral designs, horticulture displays and creative educational exhibits! The show will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 1pm to 3pm at Bogue Falaya Hall, 317 Jefferson Avenue, Covington, LA. Please share the attached with your members, family and friends. It is free and open to the public.
PLANT SALE - St. Tammany Master Gardeners - HUGE selection of plants and garden items! Friday & Saturday, April 22 & 23, 2022 - 9 AM to 4 PM - Covington Fairgrounds - 1301 N. Florida St., Covington, LA 70433 -Over 40 vendors, educational seminars, food trucks, a raffle, and a children’s area. Don't miss it! Tell your family and friends! Entrance fee proceeds will help to fund scholarships for St. Tammany graduates. Current state, local and LSU pandemic guidelines will be observed.

ANNUAL TEA – May 1: The Baton Rouge Garden Club will host a Spring Tea on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Baton Rouge Garden Center, 7950 Independence Blvd. Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806. Tickets are available at the Garden Center between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays beginning March 1 - April 14 and the cost is $35.00. Seating is limited. Please join us for afternoon tea in an elegant setting of cloth napkins and tablecloths. Baton Rouge Garden Club is dedicating funds raised to the beautification of the exterior of the Baton Rouge Garden Center. The program includes a display of antique tea implements and tableware, and a hat contest. Please enjoy a stroll through the surrounding gardens after the tea.
