GENESIS AWARD 2020
Camelot Health Care Facility

Gardenettes awarded the Genesis Award for March and April to Camelot Community Care on March 2. The facility is located at 1560 Veterans (Hwy. 51).
According to committee member Anna Poland, the grounds are beautifully landscaped with a large variety of plantings. Among them Little Jen Magnolia trees and holly trees, along with colorful flowering plants: knock out roses, Nandina, pansies, Dianthus, Delphinium, Agapanthus, and pink fountain grass. The entrance is flanked by two ponds with a water features. The courtyard gardens outside the common areas inside are equally beautiful with similar plantings. The landscape is carefully maintained by Angelo’s Landscape Service.
The ladies of Camelot receiving the award are Heather Bauder, NFA Administrator, Sonya Haggard, Business Office Manager and Shen Hadley, Administrative Assistant. Gardenettes present are Anna Poland, Margaret Bailey and Sandra Haro, photographer.

Middendorf's Restaurant, Akers LA

Gardenettes presented the January/ February Genesis Award to Middendorf's Restaurant for its well maintained landscapes. Margaret Bailey presented the award to Dee Dee Holt, Manager.
Other Gardenettes present were Anna Poland, Vicky Fannaly, Marilyn Wright, and Cricket Ayala. Middendorf’s is owned and operated by Horst and Karen Pfeifer. The raised flower beds are made from recycled pilings and cement. The roadway to the entrance features palm trees, cypress trees, roses, camellias, azaleas, sago palms, irises, Indian hawthorns, and special grasses wave in the breeze.
In the rear of the building is an open air aviary home to chickens, ducks, geese, guineafowl and a turkey. The area has a pond and plantings of palms. There is also a large, whimsical house so the birds can seek shelter. The grounds are beautifully maintained by members of the restaurant staff and Smith’s Nursery of Ponchatoula.
