JANUARY MEETING: Hostesses for the event are Jamie LeBlanc, Cynthia Cummer and Sandy Cusick. Meeting is 11 a.m. at the Strawberry Board Building. District VI Director Cynthia Moran will enlighten our group on begonia culture and assist us in making our table arrangements for February. Bring a container, floral foam and dry plant materials – lots available with all the freeze ruined plants. Magnolia leaves will be provided. You can spray them to match your theme afterward. If your theme involves accessories (figurines, that you want to add to the floral arrangement, bring them. Remember the centerpieces are door prizes. Don’t use anything you would want back.
ARBOR DAY DEDICATION: A tree will be planted for Arbor Day on Friday January 20. Mayor Bob Zabbia will be in attendance. The type of tree and time will be emailed to you closer to that date.
BATON ROUGE GARDEN CLUB: The Baton Rouge Garden Club raised funds to have New Orleans artist, Juan Karlo Randolph, paint a wall-size sign for its garden center. He chose a stand of purple irises, the club flower, to adorn the entire north side of the building. Please join us in celebration of a talented artist and a gift of beauty to our city. Mr. Randolph will be in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for noon on Friday, January 20, 2023 in the oak grove adjacent to the building, 7950 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
MAIL FROM THE PRESIDENT: “Dear Gardenettes, I want to thank you for your most generous donation to Quarter’s For Waters. Your donation will improve the lives of those less fortunate than we are. With gratitude, Roxanna” (Champagne)
NATIONAL GARDEN CLUB INC.: Gardenettes received a lovely certificate from NGC Inc. showing appreciation for planting an acre of trees at Kisatchie National Park in conjunction with their Penny Pines Program.
DECEMBER MEETING: Kathy Bruce was a real trooper, entertaining under stormy weather complete with tornado warnings. Members who attended enjoyed great hospitality and refreshments! It was a bright spot on a rainy day.
2nd NORTHSHORE ART IN BLOOM April 28-30 – Held at Columbia Theater in Hammond. Floral competition entries start January 2. Show features a blown glass exhibit, art and flower vendors, lectures, one-act play staged performances. What’s not to like!
