December's Garden of the Month was awarded to Shane and Jennifer Levert's residence at 40092 Dear Creek Drive in the Deer Creek Subdivision. The Gardenettes give this award to homeowners that maintain their own curb appealing landscaping.
Gardenettes are members of District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
The Levert's home is flanked by Magnolia trees with azaleas, Agapanthus, roses, Loripedlum and Yupon interspersed among them. There are ornamental grasses in a center bed with Althea, azaleas, Agapanthus and various other plants. Of course there are also Christmas decorations which are outstanding in Deer Creek Subdivision.

The Levert's home is flanked by Magnolia trees with azaleas, Agapanthus, roses, Loripedlum and Yupon interspersed among them. There are ornamental grasses in a center bed with Althea, azaleas, Agapanthus and various other plants. Of course there are also Christmas decorations which are outstanding in Deer Creek Subdivision.

Judy and Jim Planetta, 380 Pinewoods Road, received the Gardenettes Garden of the Month award for November.
Club members on hand to present the honor were Margaret Bailey, Joan Morse, Ellen Pusey, Pat Walsh and Marilyn Wright. The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.
According to committee member Marilyn Wright,"The beautiful yard and gardens were a joy to visit. Some of the plants in the front and side of the home were various ferns, Azalea , bridal wreath, crepe myrtle, Agapanthus , chi chi Sasanqua and an area of small knock out roses. Around the side and to a charming little gate, was a deck with seating and to the right of the deck was my favorite part, a bower of grape vines about six feet tall, with a porch type swing hanging under it."
There were unique bird houses and feeders all over the yard. To the side of the patio was a small hidden garden lush with plants. A couple of chairs face a fence covered with growing ferns and other plants as well as artifacts to admire. Thank you very much Judy and Jim for sharing your gardens and yard with us, she said.

Presenting Garden of the Month were Carol Borgstede, recipient Betty Husser, Marilyn Wright and Sandra Haro.
Betty Husser in Emerald Gardens subdivision received Garden of the Month honors for October. The Gardenettes presented the award October 2.
The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc. According to chairperson Carol McGough, the place is gorgeous.
Husser has front, side and rear gardens, also an island style in front of the yard. She has a fountain and several yard sculptures including two deer statues. The gardens consisted of hydrangeas, begonias, azaleas, Hibiscus, mums, trailing Vinca, Lily of the Nile, wandering Jew, potato vines, purslane, four o'clock's, fern and Crepe myrtle trees.
The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc. According to chairperson Carol McGough, the place is gorgeous.

Clarence and Paulette Walker, 543 South Second St., were awarded September Garden of the Month by the Gardenettes. He is a retired operator from Shell Chemical and she is a retired school administrator with along list of accolades.
The garden club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
According to Gardenette committee member Margaret Bailey, the Walkers retired to Ponchatoula where they have created a beautiful yard. Their flowerbeds are overflowing with Pentas,Vinca, Saliva, Liriope, Hibiscus, Agapanthus, Chrysanthemum, coneflowers and many other colorful plants.
There is a bench under an oak tree where they can sit and admire the fruit of their work. Mrs. Walker attributes her love of flowers to her mother who could grow anything and her father who was a landscaper, Bailey said.

The “Garden of the Month” for August was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. James Dupuy, by the Gardenettes Garden club of Ponchatoula. Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.
Homeowners for 27 years at 39486 Sable Lane, Ponchatoula, Jimmie and wife Joyce are retired. They spend most days working in the yard on projects or maintaining the landscape. Many colorful flowers welcome you as you enter the front of their home. Friends and family enjoy an outside kitchen. One can fish off a decorative pier, which overlooks the pond. The many varieties of trees and shrubs make this an attractive home and garden. Thank you Jimmie and Joyce for all your work.

Danny Williams, 633 Weinberger Road, received July Garden of the Month honors from the Gardenettes. Williams credits most of the planting and maintenance to his mother Betty Williams.

A quick view of the garden reveals many blooming perennials and tropical plants. There are roses, Hibiscus, Hosta, Agapanthus, Crinum lilies, Peegee Hydrangea, especially Limelight which is one of William's favorites. The backyard pool offers a backdrop of variegated ginger and shade trees.

Vivid caladiums give a colorful border to the Walther's permanent shrubs, according to Pusey, club chairman. Blooming roses, crepe myrtle and Althea grace the entry way and line the drive of the couple's lovely home, she added.

The honor of May Garden of the Month was awarded to Sue Davis by the Gardenettes. Ms. Davis spends lots of time tending to her plants at 725 Weinberger Rd. Ponchatoula.
Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., National Garden Club Inc.
She has several flower beds in both front and back yard. There are lots of beautiful roses, verbena, day lilies, boxwood, hosta, shrimp plants, wandering Jew and agapanthus. There are several mature crype myrtles shading the front yard. In the back we found flower beds accented with her yard art.

Karen and John Liautaud, 110 Colver Drive, received Garden of the Month honors for their landscaping, announced Cynthia Cummer, Gardenette committee spokesman.
"The colorful plantings catch the eye as you drive past. The blue delphiniums, red knock out roses and white vinca make very attractive beds," she said.
Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
The club members on hand to congratulate the Liautaud's were Marilyn Wright, Vicky Fannaly, Cynthia Cummer, Joan Morse, Margaret Bailey, Anna Poland, Jane O'Flynn, Margaret Hardin, and Sonya Avery.
Complementing the flowering plants were variegated ginger plants, variegated Japanese maple, daylilies and other permanent plantings. Several garden sculptures grace this lovely garden, according to Cummer.

According to Walsh, "The garden shows a lovely aray of red ruffle azaleas, Indian Hawthorne, Shishi Gashira camellias, and Natchez crepe myrtle. Pink snapdragons and yellow pansies draw the eye to the front flower beds."
Other parts of the garden have a Little Gem magnolia, red knockout roses, pink camellias, Agapanthus, Amaryllis, Japanese magnolia trees and yellow irises.

According to Margaret Bailey, garden club representative, the front of their home showcases a variety of textures with Agapanthus, Fox tail ferns, sago palm, little gem Magnolia, drift roses, junipers, bridal wreath, pencil holly, sweet olive, Mexican heather and variegated Liriope. Tall pine trees in the front are circled with monkey grass. There is cane lining the side and back yard.
Present to receive the award were Julie Emmons,her children, Amelia, Avery and Jack and her mother, Mrs. Munson. Amelia has been hoping to receive this award ever since her grandparents did last year. Gardenettes Anna Poland, Sonya Avery, Margaret Bailey and. Cricket Ayala represented the Gardenettes.
