Jackie Hoover, a local beekeeper, offered samples of honey from around the world for Gardenettes to sample at their January 10 meeting at the Strawberry Board building in Memorial Park.
Marilyn Wright hosted the event with Joan Morse, Carol Borgstede, Ellen Pusey and Diane Dufour serving as co-hostesses. The garden club is a member of District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.
Vicky Fannaly introduced her two guests, her aunt Maria Bonnin and her friend Evelyn Candies. Club president Anna Poland opened the meeting, Cynthia Cummer gave the minutes and Liz Anderson, the treasurer’s report. Vice president Sonya Avery gave an update on her mother in law Peggy Avery whose illness prevented her from attending. The club offered prayers for the Avery Family, Sandra Haro’s husband and Margaret Bailey.
Plans were made for the joint Tangipahoa Garden Clubs annual meeting to be hosted in Ponchatoula by the Gardenettes in February. Flora Nelson, Liz Sanderson and Vicky Fannaly volunteered to help with the fresh flowers. Cricket Ayala, Margaret Hardin, Karen Moran, Linda Taranto and other signed up to help decorate and serve in different capacities for the event.
Staci Arceneaux, director of volunteer services at North Oaks Hospital encouraged members to join the hospital volunteer program. She outlined the benefits of volunteering and passed out application forms. Garden of the Month, Genesis Award and Arbor Day events were planned.
