SUMMER SOCIAL: Suggested by Jamie LeBlanc, eighteen club members and guests gathered June 30 at Salty Joe’s restaurant for lunch. It was great fellowship and good food!
NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK: Chairman Sunday Hanson knocked this one out of the park. Thanks to all who went the extra mile and donated plant cuttings, seeds and rooted plants from their garden. We posted announcements the week before and throughout the June 4-10 week in the Ponchatoula Times and Daily Star, Action News 17 TV also covered the event. We may have missed someone, but those members we know brought plants include Mary Hirsch, Marilyn Wright, Margaret Bailey, Sherry Klein, Vicky Fannaly and Sunday Hanson. The library staff were very encouraging and delighted to have the plants. Sunday bought them some treats when we picked up the banners and trays.
BOSOM BUDDY BAGS: A big thanks to Karen Hotard, chairman, who has been sewing with help from some other members. Her Bosom Buddy Bag committee delivered 68 completed bags to North Oaks Medical Center for use by cancer and surgery patients to hold their drainage bags. This makes a total of 95 given to the hospital this year. These bright, cheerful bags have been appreciated by the patients. The hospital was delighted.
PRESIDENTS MEETING: Held at Middendorf’s Friday June 16 was good place to meet other District VII sixteen garden clubs’ members. Vice president Marilyn Wright and president Vicky Fannaly attended.
JUNE GARDEN OF THE MONTH: Members Ellen Pusey, Margaret Bailey, Recipient Terry Wilde, Marilyn Wright, Sunday Hanson, Vicky Fannaly awarded June Garden of the Month to Terry and Ann Wilde of 170 Pineywood Road on June 10. The honor recognizes outstanding horticulture and landscaping in a home setting. Jerry gave us all an enormous cucumber from his garden which emphasizes raised beds of vegetables with companion flowers to lure pollinators.
SUMMER BOARD: This annual meeting July 17-18 is held at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge. Mainly business meetings, but anyone is welcome to sit in to see how the Federation works.
