Anna Poland, Gardenette President, presented the Genesis Award for commercial landscaping to Brandon Barnes, representing Bill Hood Pre-Owned Outlet. Gardenettes presented Bill Hood Pre-Owned Outlet at 625 Pine Street with the November/December Genesis Award for commercial landscaping December 19. Garden club president, Anna Poland, gave Brandon Barnes the award plaque.
Gardenette members Liz Anderson and Margaret Bailey were also present along with employees: Jeff Davis, Jeff Davis 2nd, Jim Garcia, Benny Smith and Kathy Newman.
Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.
According to Bailey who represented the Genesis committee, there is a row of Bradford pear trees on either side of their lot. At each corner and flanking the entrance drive are well maintained plantings of drift roses, juniper, and Aztec grass. Prestige One keeps this landscaping pristine."

The newly opened business, Moss & Berry, at 157 West Pine Street was presented the Genesis Award for September/October by the Gardenettes. This award is given to commercial properties that beautify their property and improve the appearance of our community, said Margaret Bailey, Genesis committee chairman.
Owners, Laurie Stevens and Kyla Broussard flanked their doorway with two beautiful wrought-iron window boxes. They are filled with colorful coleus, caladiums, foxtail ferns and cascading purple potato vine. There is also a peaceful patio in the back of the store, Bailey said.
Gardenettes attending the presentation are Margaret Bailey, Anna Poland, Linda Taranto, Sandra Haro, Joan Morse, Ellen Pusey, Vicky Fannaly, Linda Byrd, Karen Moran and Liz Sanderson.

Grass Master Maintenance & Landscaping

Gardenettes presented the July\ August Genesis Award to Grass Master Maintenance & Landscaping, 39509 SW I-55 Service Road.
According to Margaret Bailey, garden club Genesis committee, the award is presented to commercial properties that have put extra effort into their landscaping. Grass Masters being a landscape business certainly fit the bill. Their entrance has a beautifully arranged assortment of caladiums, roses, cypress trees, boxwood, ligustrum, muhly grass, and Dianthus.
Owners Brandon Lutman,Randy Lutnam and Ben Dutruch were present for the presentation picture. Other employees attending were Jimmy Cox, Baret Vuter, Taylor Denham, Josh Johnson, Britnay Gulis, Bailie Savoy, Lauren Patti and Joe Wonder. Carwash Depot

The May-June Genesis Award for commercial beautification was awarded to the Carwash Depot at 780 West Pine Street. Their landscaping is beautifully maintained by Landscape Plus. The plaque is being presented to general managers Richard Tallo and Nick Cannino by Libbie Barron, Margaret Bailey, Cricket Ayala, Anna Poland, Linda Byrd.
Roses, Lantana and Lily of the Nile are blooming around their business sign. However, there is more beauty to be found as you drive through to the car wash. There are roses and more lilies at the back entrance, rows of sweet olive trees and azaleas flanking the vacuum area, and more roses,tall ornamental grasses, magnolia trees and cypress trees that accent the drive into the car wash. You will also see big pots of nandinas and gardenias.

Presenting Genesis Award for March-April to Mayor Bob Zabbia for grounds landscaping: Margaret Hardin, Anna Poland, Lynda Byrd, Mayor Bob Zabbia, Margaret Bailey, Pat Walsh. Standing - Ellen Pusey, Vicky Fannaly, Cynthia Cummer, mayor's assistant Rhonda Sheridan and Lydia Cosgrove.
Mayor Bob Zabbia recieves the Genesis Award for March-April for the attractive landscaping at City Hall. Besides colorful annuals, there are permanent tree and shrubs which make the location a very visually pleasing civic location.

Rockin' Willies Bar and Grill

Gardenettes presented the Genesis Award for January-February to Rockin Willy's Bar and Grill, 140 N. Baronne St., Ponchatoula. Receiving the plaque is Grace Johnson, owner. The award is presented to commercial and civic establishments for their landscaping.
Present to congratulate her were Gardenettes, Vicky Fannaly, Libbie Barron, Peggy Avery, Liz Anderson, Cricket Ayala, Joan Morse, Margaret Bailey, Sonya Avery, Jane O'Flynn, Margaret Hardin, Ellen Pusey and club president Anna Poland.
Extensive use of evergreens, makes this business attractive even though the winter has taken a toll on plantings. There are holly bushes, trailing and upright spruce, pine, oaks, magnolias and azaleas along the lighted fencing. All of which add to an interesting planting scheme.
