Gardenettes celebrated “Make a Difference Day” Saturday October 23 by landscaping at New Horizons Youth Services Bureau, a service facility for youth counseling 47257 River Road in Hammond.
The facility was in need of planting to make it less institutional. Gardenettes put in some maintenance free blooming shrubbery and mulch in an effort to encourage and cheer those whose problems were being addressed. The center counsels on behavior and drug problems as well as parenting difficulties.
When looking for a way to celebrate the annual event, April Wehrs of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, suggested the New Horizons center as a good candidate for “Make a Difference Day.” Gardenettes Adrienne Dunn, Kathy Bedenbaugh and Dale Rieth went to the facility to see what was needed.
Dunn then coordinated with the facility, purchased five Knock Out roses, a gardenia and mulch for the project. Helping to plant on Saturday were Aimee Marcombe and her granddaughter Angelina Ladner, Sandra Haro, Abbey Gauthier, Adrienne Dunn, Kathy Bedenbaugh, Cricket Ayala, Margaret Bailey, Diane Dufour, Lynda Byrd and Cheryl Kuhn.
