FEBRUARY MEETING: We are expecting 90 people. Set up day is February 7, starting at 10 a.m. We will need everyone to attend. Mary Hirsch and Jamie LeBlanc will be needing help unloading their auction items. We need everyone to help set up the tables. I believe we have 20 round tables and about 10 long ones. Each person needs to decorate their tables so we will be ready by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday – company coming for 11:30 a.m.
Checklist to bring other than special assignments (Ellen-drinks, Mary-auction items): centerpiece, table decorations, 10 favor bags, extra dessert (inexpensive, cut into serving portions), plus anything I forgot to mention. Feel free to wear a hat if you so desire. We will be serving the meal, so if you have a big spoon, bring it. Serve gently. When everyone has been served, people can come for seconds and serve themselves.
Gardenettes should sit at their own tables to act as hostesses. You can use 2-part tickets (Mary has these) to pull for the centerpiece at the end of the meeting. We will announce the time to do this, so wait for it.
JANUARY MEETING: Hostesses for the event were Jamie LeBlanc, Cynthia Cummer and Sandy Cusick. District VI Director Cynthia Moran taught our group on begonia.
GENESIS: Strawberry Manor was awarded Genesis for January-February. Located in the former Will Ed Butler and later Steve Pugh home, the facility has been enhanced and has some lovely landscaping.
GARDEN OF THE MONTH: Reggie Pevey received the honor for his home on 225 E. Cypress. He accepted the ward along with his two daughters in attendance.
ARBOR DAY DEDICATION: A Shumard Oak was planted in Memorial Park for Arbor Day on Friday January 20. First Lady Kim Zabbia assisted in the ceremony.
2nd NORTHSHORE ART IN BLOOM April 28-30 – Held at Columbia Theater in Hammond. Floral competition entries start January 2. Show features a blown glass exhibit, art and flower vendors, lectures, one-act play staged performances. What’s not to like!
