Three trees will be planted for Arbor Day plans as discussed at the Gardenettes January 9 business meeting at the home of Anna Poland on North Sixth Street. Trees will honor deceased Gardenettes Flora Nelson, and Liz Anderson - also Don Steadman whose wife Louise Steadman had been a longtime Gardenette member.
Joining Poland in hostessing the event were Jamie LeBlanc and club president Sonya Avery. A long list of sick members was compiled and the club offered their opening prayers for their recovery.
Presentation of Garden of the Month and Genesis awards were discussed, and these awards will be announced by the end of the month. A date to make Bosom Buddy Bags was set for January 29 at 10 a.m. at the Strawberry Board Building.
Cricket Ayala collected enough money to send to Kisatchie National Forest as part of the National Garden Clubs Inc. (NGC Inc.) Penny Pines plantation, to help with the costs of replanting replacement trees indigenous to a particular damaged area. Whether by fire or by other natural catastrophe, pine trees and other trees are replaced. Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and the NGC Inc.
