AUGUST GARDEN OF THE MONTH: The newly renovated Miller home at 301 North 7th Street received the August Garden of the Month from the Gardenettes. Owners Amanda and Jerry Miller Jr. received the award from Margaret Bailey, garden club chairman. Amanda Miller took on the task of "renovating" the landscaping. The house is surrounded by flower beds that are full of colorful flowers: caladiums, cannas, ornamental grasses, potato vines, Lantana, Verbena, Gladiolus, begonias, Liriope and a row of yellow roses to name a few. She bought some of the plants, kept some of the original shrubs such as the sweet olive and angel trumpets and transplanted plants from her mother's and grandmother's gardens.

NOTE FROM SONYA: Sonia Avery and her family appreciated our card and sends a God bless to all for the caring messages from our members on the death of Peggy Avery, her mother-in-law, and Circle of Roses member. Peggy was a long-time president and member of Community Garden Club which is the reason we have use of the Strawberry Festival Building. When her club merged with ours, she became a very active and devoted member of the Gardenettes.
NOTE FROM ASHLEY DUREETOR: “This note comes with grateful heart to your service to the breast cancer patient community. The drainage bag you helped provide for me post mastectomy was very helpful to me for the couple of weeks following surgery! It made moving along in my daily life so much easier. I’m so grateful to you all! Something that might seem so simple has left a great impact on me! May God continue to bless your work as you continue to be His Hands and Feet!! With love and much thanks.”
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION: Don’t forget to collect the Box Tops and Community coffee coupons. Schools can cash these in for educational supplies.
LOOSE CHANGE: Looking for coins for Penny Pines and Quarters for Waters. Bring them to the meeting when you attend.
HOLLAND TOUR: Holland has been planned for three years now, and we need more to sign-up for the tour by end of October! Travel plans and cost estimates will follow when I know if these choices are approved by your members. I know that many clubs will not begin until September, but you can go ahead and send this information out and ask them to share their feelings with you--and then you share with me! Thank you, Naomi Cordill - LGCF Tours Chairman.

DISTRICT VI FALL MEETING: This festive meeting held at Juban Restaurant in Baton Rouge will feature a guest speaker and other entertainment. If you want to enjoy an outing, put this on our calendar. SHOES DEADLINE 10/27: We are in the home stretch. So far we have collected 60 bags each with 25 pairs of gently worn (or 1,500 shoes!), used and new shoes. That leaves us only 700 pairs from our goal. If you haven’t collected your shoes yet, please try to collect them as soon as possible and have them for us by October 27, as we will be wrapping up the campaign. I am thankful for all of your support. Remember that every pair helps. If you can’t collect 25, then collect all that you can as they will add up and help us reach our goal.
