APRIL MEETING April 12 - 11:30: Held at the home of Vicky Fannaly, 41411 S. Range Rd., Corner of Range Road at Brickyard Road, it will be hosted by Vicky Fannaly and Mary Hirsch. Guest Speaker John Cleary will show how to make mason bee houses.
MAY MEETING CHANGE MAY 3: The awards banquet scheduled for second Wednesday has been moved to the first Wednesday May 3, due to college exam week. Most of the servers at Murphy's are college students and the restaurant will be short staffed. Please mark your calendars, thanks! Allen Owings will be talking about roses!
MARCH MEETING: Hosted by Sunday Hanson with Susan Pizani and Karen Hotard at the Strawberry Board Building. Refreshments served at 11:00 a.m. Guest speaker Linda Ryan showed how easy it is to create a lovely line arrangement.
HONORS: Gardenettes placed first in their class at the Deep South Convention for their publicity pressbook. Competition came from a six-state area. This was our second win in two years.
LETTERS: Received a note from past president Sonya Avery who lives in McComb, MS: “Hi, I hope this finds everyone doing well. We are all doing fine. Sure do miss you ladies and love seeing y’all in the newspaper. Hope these coffee tags help out. Been saving for a while. Please tell all Hi – take care everyone – have a Happy Easter and Spring. Hugs and kisses, Sonya”
MEMBERSHIP: Linda Farbe is leaving for the time being and planning to rejoin at a later date.
NEW ORLEANS SPRING GARDEN SHOW - April 1 to 2: The annual spring garden show in New Orleans will be held April 1 to 2 at the New Orleans Botanical Garden. The garden show includes plant and garden product exhibits, sales throughout the garden, a children’s discovery tent, educational programs, live music, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations and more. Educational programs will take place in the Garden Study Center and are free with entrance to the show. There also will be live music each day. This event is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter in cooperation with the Metro Area Horticulture Foundation, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, Louisiana Master Gardeners, New Orleans City Park and Friends of City Park. Admission to the show is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 4 years old and Friends of City Park members receive free admission. IRIS EVENT April 2: Former Gardenette president Cynthia Orgeron passed this information: “I wanted to share the info on the Louisiana Iris events coming up. Go to the web http://www.louisianairisgnois.com/, La Irisies https://www.louisianas.org/index.php, and there is a wonderful page with references, events, and articles on LA Irises. George and I love them and do have many in my flower beds. So many are already blooming! I really enjoy going to the event at New Orleans Museum of Art Sculpture Garden, It is coming up on April 2.”

FLOWER SHOW April 13: Covington Garden Club invites you to attend their standard flower show “Louisiana Fairs and Festivals, 1:00-3:00 p.m. April 13.
HAMMOND SPRING GARDEN DAY – April 15: The 2023 Hammond Spring Garden Day will be held April 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station.
The event will feature educational exhibits, kids’ activities, gardening seminars, gardening advice, and the Hammond Research Station plant sale. They will have vegetable starts, flowers, shrubs, trees, Super Plants and a whole lot more. There also will be food concessions. The purpose of these events is to educate the public on LSU AgCenter recommendations for gardening and related topics; showcase garden products and services available in the area; and provide a fundraising activity for the Hammond gardens and students at the Hammond Research Station. The LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station is located at 1549 Old Covington Highway in Hammond.

LGCF CONVENTION April 18-19: Held in Tallulah, this event has a festive first day tour into historic Natchez MS to tour the gardens and homes with lunch at the Sunnyside B&B. Good speakers and a change of LGCF officers will be held. https://www.lgcfinc.org/lgcf-convention.html
20th ANNUAL NORTHSHORE GARDEN SHOW/ PLANT SALE – April 21-22: The St. Tammany Master Gardeners will host the 20th annual Northshore Garden Show and Plant Sale on April 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.Education programs will be presented on both days between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with a separate children’s activities booth on the show floor. More than 40 vendors will be selling plants, and other garden-related items will be available. The show is held at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds, 1301 N. Florida St. in Covington. There is a $5 gate fee for all individuals 18 and over. Those under 18 and first responders may enter free of charge. Proceeds from the garden show help fund the Bobby Fletcher Sr. Scholarship and the St. Tammany Master Gardener Association Scholarship. MADISONVILLE GARDEN CLUB FLOWER SHOW April 26: We have been invited to attend the club’s Annual Flower Show at the Maritime Museum Louisiana in Madisonville.
2nd NORTHSHORE ART IN BLOOM April 28-30 – Held at Columbia Theater in Hammond. Floral competition entries start January 2. Show features a blown glass exhibit, art and flower vendors, lectures, one-act play staged performances. What’s not to like!
The event will feature educational exhibits, kids’ activities, gardening seminars, gardening advice, and the Hammond Research Station plant sale.
