Super Plants, Super Garden
Dr. Allen Owings, senior horticulturist at Bracy’s Nursery, presented a program on the 2022 LSU Super Plants selections. Owings spoke to the Gardenettes at their March 9 meeting at Pappy’s Stowaway Restaurant.
Hostesses for the meeting included Cricket Ayala, Karen Moran, Pat Walsh and Betty Jordan. The opening prayer was given by Sunday Hanson. Annette Cabral was introduced as a guest of Sherry Klein. Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.
President Vicky Fannaly opened the meeting. A report was given by Ellen Pusey treasurer. Marilyn Wright invited the members to help present Garden of the Month to Jan Downey in Lake Orleans and the Genesis Award to Smith’s Nursery 19355 Hwy. 22 East.
The nominating committee Susan Pizani, Jamie LeBlanc and Cynthia Cummer reported the current officers agreed to assume another two year term due to the broken agenda caused by COVID conditions. Cummer announced the birthdays for the month.
Membership chairman Walsh distributed permanent nametags to the new members present. Members present but not previously mentioned were Margaret Hardin, Kathy Bruce and Sandy Cusick. A brief discussion of the joint Tangipahoa garden club’s meeting which will be hosted by the Gardenettes was held.
