Gardenettes Arbor Day ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, January 17, at 10 a.m. at Tasker Park on North First Street. The annual event is open to the public, according to Anna Poland, coordinator.
Gardenettes held their January 8 meeting at the Strawberry Board Building in Memorial Park with vice president Sandra Haro presiding. Hostesses for the event were Ellen Pusey, Poland, Kathy Bruce and Carol McGough. The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
Recording secretary Cynthia Cummer was waived from reading the minutes as the last meeting was a Christmas party. Vicky Fannaly read the treasurer's report and announced that the annual Publicity Pressbook had been mailed to the judges for the state award.
Conservation committee member Marilyn Wright gave a brief rundown on the massive wildlife loss in Australia due to the country's wildfire disaster. Bosom Buddy Bag chairman Karen Moran scheduled a delivery date for new bags and promised to set up work days to make these colorful bags to be given to cancer patients to hold their medical drips.
Collections were made by Cricket Ayala for Penny Pines project to replant pine trees and by Haro for coupons for education. Horticulture brought by Anna Poland and Margaret Bailey. Exhibits celebrated winter with all greenery designer choice arrangements. Margaret Bailey received people's choice honors for her large arrangement.
Also present were Margaret Hardin, Jamie Leblanc, Joan Morse, Susan Pizani, Jane O'Flynn. Garden of the Month honors went to Moran for her personally maintained garden; Genesis, to Middendorf's for their commercial landscaping.
