The Gardenettes of Ponchatoula presented their Genesis Award for July and August to the Parker Layrisson Law Firm. The firm’s new location at 200 E. Hickory has landscaping managed by Parker’s mother, Celeste. She chose these vibrant evergreens: magnolia, fan palms, camellias, liriope, Japanese Yew, nandina, susanqua, Japanese Magnolia, clumping bamboo, forsythia and gardenia.
These evergreens are mixed with perennials, annuals, bulbs, and tropicals, which include Texas star hibiscus, several salvias, amaryllis, day lilies, crinum, iris, Japanese Iris, Pagoda clerodendrum, rice paper plant, ferns, gingers, and elephant ears.
Amidst these plants and flowers are the incredibly beautiful and very special RAIFORD amaryllis. The RAIFORD amaryllis are those that John Raiford, whose family lived there for over 50 years, originally grew at the property. His son, Jerry Raiford, graciously donated quite a few from his garden.
The Genesis Award is presented to a business in recognition of superior landscaping. Keep an eye on this location to see Celeste’s plan for an extension to the front flower garden.
