Floral artist, Linda Ryan, demonstrated how to make a flower arrangement using a flower pot at the Gardenettes March 8, meeting. Ryan is a member of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc. Sixth District Judges Council and Hammond Garden Club.
Making a lovely floral arrangement for a gift or to decorate your home can be very simple if you keep a few things in mind, according to Linda Ryan, in her demonstration to the Gardenettes at their March 8 meeting held at the Strawberry Board building in Memorial Park.
Using a decorative flower pot, Ryan lined it with plastic wrap before inserting her floral foam. Showing how to position flowers according to height and eye movement, she used fern to fill in the blank spots and cover her "mechanics" so the foam would be hidden. Ryan is a member of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc. Sixth District Judges Council and Hammond Garden Club.
Gardenettes are members of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc. Hostesses for the meeting were Sunday Hanson and Karen Hotard. Kathy Bruce led the prayer. Vicky Fannaly introduced her guest Cheryl Wade. Karen Hotard, bosom buddy bag chairman, reported delivering 30 bags to North Oaks Medical Center for use by breast cancer and surgery patients.
Margaret Bailey announced the Garden of the Month winner and asked members to tour the yard after the meeting. Her committee gave the Genesis Award for March and April to Twin Steeples Creative Art Center. Horticulture blue ribbon winners were Mary Hirsch, Bailey and Bruce. A floral exhibit was brought by Bailey
Reporting on the February Joint Tangipahoa meeting, president Fannaly congratulated the members on their lovely table decorations, extra desserts and hard work. Special commendation went to Mary Hirsch and Jamie Leblanc for their months of work on the Ways and Means committee. Assisting them were Bailey and Hanson.
The April meeting will be held in the home of Vicky Fannaly with Hirsch and Linda Farbe as hostesses. Master Gardener John Cleary will do a demonstration on building mason bee houses.
