HAPPY MAY BIRTHDAY TO:
PRESIDENT’S MEETING: Susan Pizani will be representing us at the annual President’s Meeting at Middendorf’s May 29. Vicky Fannaly will be accompanying her as a District VI officer.
SUMMER BOARD MEETING: State meeting July 8-9 will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. Mainly a business meeting, the Tuesday lunch will be recognizing the club presidents. Susan Pizani will be representing our club; Vicky Fannaly is event chairman.
GARDENING COURSE 3: This will be held in Abbeville September 4-5. This is the same as several sections of the Master Gardener’s program. Taking this will help qualify you for Gardening Consultant status in the state and will help you with your gardening knowledge if you do not take it for credit. For information:https://www.lgcfinc.org/gardening-school.html
APRIL MONTHLY MEETING: Due to tornado weather, the meeting was cancelled. Hostesses were stuck at home with party treats – no complaints.
GARDEN OF THE MONTH: Gardenettes presented April Garden of the Month award to new member Virginia Hawkins for her lovely garden. Virginia is a master planter of hard to grow seeds and has special techniques for starting foxgloves, larkspur and other beautiful spring blossoms. She will be sharing these with you at a meeting next garden club year.
GARDEN OF THE MONTH REDO: The club was contacted by a new widower, Jimmy Byers, to honor his wife through her garden. Pam Byers received Garden of the Month in 2018. She had been working hard to get her spring blooms when she went to sleep one night and didn’t awaken. We gave her a re-visit to honor Jimmy’s request.
LGCF CONVENTION: Biggest crowd of Gardenettes in years attended the Lake Charles gathering at L’Auberge Casino: Susan Pizani, Sunday Hanson, Marilyn Wright and Vicky Fannaly. No, none of us moved to a higher tax bracket after playing the machines. We did have fun though.
LGCF AWARDS: Gardenettes won first for our Publicity Pressbook, Webpage and Media (again for all three). The last two had $10 cash awards. The Pressbook now goes to the next level for competing against six states. The club also got three non-competitive awards: Garden Club Achievement, Arbor Day, Special Conservation.
CLEANEST CITY JUDGING: Two Gardenettes, Virginia Hawkins and Vicky Fannaly, judged Baton Rouge for the Cleanest City Contest District eliminations. It was a great tour of the city with refreshments and what Virginia liked most was our police escort!
