MEET OUR DISTRICT DIRECTOR ELECT DONNA CARVILLE
PLAQUEMINE GARDEN CLUB
|
Donna Carville served as President during the COVID-19 quarantine years between 2019-2021 that presented an unprecedented challenge to keep Club members together and engaged while contributing to our community despite restrictions. After initially joining the Club in 2000, she resigned in 2006 for full-time work commitments as the Public and Govern ment AA irs Director with Dow Chemical Company. She rejoined the Club after retirement in 2010 with more time to devote to club activities. COVID-19 was especially challenging since no face-to-face meetings could be held. Instead, the Board met via Zoom, divided club members into teams for better communication and cohesiveness, created monthly projects for team members to include the delivery of care packages to older members, issued monthly newsletters on team

projects which kept members informed and engaged in club activities. As COVID 19 restrictions were lifted, the Club gathered for their annual May Hat Luncheon with joy and a catered luncheon. She actively participates in and now co-chairs the Iberville Parish Courthouse Plaza flowerbed seasonal planting for 11 years, a project that received the National Garden Club Landscaping Award as well as state and regional recognition. She also chaired the Arbor Day tree planting for 4 years, Ferry Landing landscaping for 2 years, Gardening with our Youth for 2 years, Garden of the Month for 3 years and Plant Sale Chairman. As a Master Gardener she has helped in landscaping and planting at the Iberville Museum, Iberville Courthouse, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Iberville Parks and Recreation main complex, created and teaches vegetable gardening for the day clients at the Iberville Association of Retarded Citizens. In addition, the Club received the most awards from NGC, DSGC and LGCF in 2024 including the award for receiving the most awards in LGCF when she co-chaired the Awards Committee. Donna is married to Charlie Carville, a retired veterinarian. She is the mother of four children, and grandmother of 10 wonderful grandchildren ranging in age from 20 to 7. Not a day goes by that they are not at one of the grandchildren’s events whether in Texas, Colorado or here in Louisiana. Her priorities are first and foremost our Lord, her husband and family, and dear friends. She is a fulltime volunteer at St. John the Evangelist Church serving as adult faith formation coordinator, Bible Study leader and Altar Society President.
