Natural Disasters Fund 2026 - Louisiana
ABOUT THE FUND -- APPLICATION FORM
An application form has been created for LGCF Garden Clubs to apply for restoration projects in public areas following a natural disaster. The LGCF Advisory Committee will review all submissions and determine the award amounts, with clubs eligible to receive up to $500.00 per Disaster Project.
Blue Star Markers and How to Apply
COMPLETE INFORMATION
We currently have three new marker applications in process and one re-dedication:
· A Gold Star and a Blue Star Memorial Marker in at a new Memorial Garden in Rayne, sponsored by the Rayne Garden Club
· A Blue Star Marker in at the Northwest Veterans Home in Bossier City installed by Keep Bossier Beautiful and sponsored by Farmerville Garden Club.
· The Marksville Garden Club has placed an application for a Gold Star Marker at The Veterans’ Memorial Walkway located at 128 Garlington Cutoff Road, Effie, LA
· There was also a re-dedication of a marker by the Azalea Garden Club at the new Loreauville City Hall on May 29, 2026.
Procedure *A garden club votes to have a marker. An appropriate location is selected and the type of marker for that location is chosen. *Contact the State Blue Star Memorial Chairman for forms instructions. *Contact local or state authority responsible for location. *Send order form and check to State Blue Star Memorial Chairman for processing. District VI - Convention 2028
Folks, this is US working. You have been asked to chair a committee and help make this convention a good memory. We only have until April 2028 so please step up. Together we can make this a good memory of our District.
District VI is pleased to invite you to our 2028 Convention “River Reflections Where Gardens Flow,” Suggested Date and Location – April 24-26, 2028, at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. We have a promise to attend from the incoming NGC president and some exciting ideas to entertain on a pre-convention excursion. Plans for a pre-convention fundraiser are in the works to entertain with a festive event. There will be interesting, informative speakers, a gala reception prior to the awards banquet and great vendors with unique items you will want for yourselves and for gifts. See you there!

In place of Cleanest City, LGCF has partnered with the State's Keep Louisiana Beautiful program. It will feature Love the Boot Week 2027: April 17–25, 2027 -- Love Our Waterways in September, Keep Louisiana Beautiful State Conference: December 7–9, 2026 -- Litter Free Schools programs.
This September, Keep Louisiana Beautiful will launch its month-long Love Our Waterways campaign, a statewide effort to clean Louisiana's rivers, lakes, bayous, and shorelines. Live Oak Society
LIVE OAK REGISTRATION FORM
As of July 15, 2026 the Society has 10,774 members—some 7,007 that Coleen Perilloux Landry registered since taking the chairmanship in 2000. The organization is now 92 years old. Since the April convention, one centenarian oak was saved by a phone call to the arborist of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the same arborist who helped her save OLD DICKORY in the early 2,000’s. And, she has stopped a developer from cutting down at least 20 live oaks to build a subdivision. In LOS she not only registers and honors oaks but she helps to promote, preserve and protect them.

Youth Activities
PROGRAMS
If you don't sponsor a youth group, you are encouraged to consider this important resource to interest young people in gardening, litter control and responsible stewardship. During this year’s State Convention, the winners of the Smokey Bear /Woodsy Owl poster contest were announced. All state winners in each grade received $20. Hopefully, this will encourage more entries next year. The promotion of this contest will resume in earnest once the school year starts. Information will be sent to all District Presidents to distribute to all club presidents as well as school principles.
In addition to the poster contest, promotion of the youth poetry and youth sculpture contest will also begin with the start of the school year.

Belle Oaks Garden Club, Hammond
Cathy & Randy Tricou - July Garden of the Month - Their landscaping includes a pond in front of their home with a stone raised flowerbed around the perimeter of the front. Container gardening is on the large porch, and their backyard has native plants at the edge of a swamp like atmosphere. Very unique!

Washington Parish flower clubs attended a class to make prominent color arrangements for fair competition. Susan McNeese, used dried material and fresh plants. Also, how the backdrop color makes the flowers pop.
Plaquemine Garden Club

The Plaquemine Garden Club has chosen the yard of Tommy and Joey LeBlanc for its July Garden of the Month. Their yard is very attractive with a brick walkway leading to the front steps of their house. On both sides of the steps are flowerbeds with various colors of Vinca plants, with Willow leaf podocarp behind the smaller plants. The small beds perfectly frame the front of the LeBlanc home. The addition of the American flag displayed on their porch makes their home the perfect selection for the July Garden of the Month! In the picture with Tommy and Joey are their grandchildren, Beau and Kate LeBlanc. Congratulations Tommy and Joey for having your house chosen for our Garden of the Month!
